Fresh-cut gerbera flowers can last for over a week if taken care of. Here are some tips to care for gerbera flowers at home:

  • Clean the vase very well before filling it with clean water.
  • Trim the Gerbera flower stem before putting it in the vase. Repeat every time you change the water.
  • Make sure you cut the Gerbera stem at an angle and put it immediately into the fresh water.
  • Change the water every 2 to 3 days, or sooner if it becomes cloudy, to help reduce bacterial growth.
  • Avoid deep water for gerbera stems, if possible, because the stems can become soft and rot more easily.
  • Keep the gerbera flowers in bright, indirect light, away from heat and direct sun.
  • Don’t leave the Gerbera flowers vase beside ripening vegetables or fruits, like tomatoes, bananas or apples, because they produce a high level of ethylene gas that will cause the Gerbera flowers and leaves to age rapidly.
